And 2 follow up…… the progress of our baby chickies!
JUST TO RE-CAP – we had 7 baby chickies born end of August, they are now seven weeks old, 4 of them a golden yellow colour like their mum Gigi, one black one where from I don’t know, one speckled brown/grey one like their mum Puk Puk who we still have, and their dad the vicious cock (who is no longer with us he’s up in cockland) and a pure white one where from again I don’t know!
A couple of days old – ah so sweet, butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths!!!!
Here they are 7 weeks old – they are nearly the size of their mum GiGi!
They are very big for 7 weeks old, don’t know how many are cocks and how many are females, but they are right monkeys, even though we have doubly secured the fencing all around, mum and her brood are escaping to next door, how I just don’t know, the mums wings have been clipped, we stand there for ages in the morning seeing how they get over but…… Snowy and Puk Puk don’t escape so they have run of the whole fenced in area.
A very big Puk Puk, she would feed a family of 10, but a bit old now at 18 months! I personally couldn’t do it anyway!
I wish GiGi and Puk Puk would produce some eggs as we are now having to buy them, must be too cold!!!!
Just for your information, our other babies that were born in May, only 2 of them now, seem to prefer to live next door, why I don’t know, they do have minds of their own sometimes don’t they!

Hi Jilly
We are getting less eggs now that it is colder. Chicken are so much fun to keep, ours line up at the gate of their very large pen to be let out every day to explore the rest of our land. Luckily there are no young crops for them to peck at, unlike in the summer when we have to watch them like a hawk.

Hi Steve, Yes they are great aren’t they, they aren’t always that stupid either, but we do confine ours, as apart from pecking at the flowers etc, they do make so much mess! Can’t stand that so they stay put in their designated area, well no they don’t actually stay put they go next door! despite fencing up, I just went out with some bread for them and mum and babies flew out of the trees, so thats how they are getting next door!!! but too young to clips wings unfortunately!
